This post tells the details of this great historic event, shedding light on the extraordinary qualities possessed by Hazrat Ali (ra) and the profound impact it left on the Muslim history. The encounter between Hazrat Ali (ra) and Amr ibn Abd al-Wud took place during the Battle of the Trench in the year 625 CE. Amr, a renowned warrior and a formidable adversary, was known for his exceptional combat skills and audacity on the battlefield. The Muslims, led by the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), faced a formidable challenge as they defended themselves against the forces of the Quraysh. After Amr's final provocation to the Muslims, Hazrat Ali (ra) implored the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for permission to face Amr ibn Abd al-Wud. The Prophet was reluctant at first, but following the misbehave from Amr towards Muslims, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated for Hazrat Ali's (ra) well-being and grant him the permission to confront Amr.

Hazrat Ali's (ra) faith and deep conviction in the cause of Islam were the driving forces behind his urge to confront the renowned warrior of the disbelievers, after this daunting challenge. He understood that his fight was not for personal glory but for upholding the principles of justice and defending the Muslim community. His belief in Allah's support and divine guidance fortified his spirit, allowing him to face his opponent with unwavering determination.

The encounter between Hazrat Ali (ra) and Amr ibn Abd al-Wud was a clash between a believer and a disbeliever, with both warriors displaying exceptional skill, strength, and agility. Despite being a young man, Hazrat Ali (ra) fearlessly confronted Amr in combat. The battle raged on, witnessing exchanges of powerful blows and deft maneuvers. Hazrat Ali's (ra) superior swordsmanship and his ability to anticipate his opponent's moves proved crucial in gaining an upper hand. During this intense duel, Hazrat Ali (ra) finally managed to strike a decisive blow, bringing Amr ibn Abd al-Wud to the ground. As Amr lay defeated, the Muslims rejoiced upon it, including, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Hazrat Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (ra), and Hazrat Omar al-Faruq (ra).

After that shameful end of Amr by Hazrat Ali (ra), who was only in his late 20s at that time, the disbelievers were left in great distress, and no one among them tried to cross the trench to challenge the Muslims, again.
